Octane Booster is an “octane” booster, not speed booster. The motor under test was measured with no load. The higher the load in a car (like an uphill) the useful the octane booster.

Jimiline Fine Cars. The only used dealer in Toronto that passed APA’s testing??? That is a joke. I bought a Volkswagen Golf TDI there supposedly in top shape and no accidents. Had problems right from the start = one week after purchase brakes and other small items. Only months later turbo goes. When having the car worked on … by several mechanics all stated there were clear signs that my car was in a substantial accident!!! Car is still on the road aprox. 6 years later but I’ve dumped thousands in to the car replacing turbo, clutch suspension and multiple major parts. I would never by a used car for Jimiline Fine Cars or any of the outfits up the 400 in that area.

@Bill I hate to ask, but did your Dad use clean rubber gloves to handle the bulb. @W Wommack Mine lasted for a couple of years worth, here again any oil from your hand will usually shorten the life of the bulb.

Went through 6 of these in less than a year. My Honda kept the OEM headlights for 10 years. No Silverstar at $25 each, lasted longer than 4 months. One or 2 might be a fluke, not 6.

On December 27, 2011 at around 10:20 PM my 16 year old daughter rode a TTC bus # 57 (to Midland Avenue – north bound.) from Kennedy Stn, requested the bus driver to stop the bus in-front of our house (1021 Midland). The driver refused her request as there is no bus stop there. I believe TTC drivers should not refuse requests from elderly and female passengers after 9:30 PM.

@aaron Check that the dome lights bulbs are there and if they are, that they aren't blown. The whole thing is interconnected and won't work if something is wrong with the dome lights.

@taylor Start by removing all the bulbs from their sockets (those that are for the signal lights, of course), and check that the contacts are clean, specially in the front since they are exposed, and the wires while you are at it. Don't gorget the ones on the fenders. I had one headlamp with burned insulation, and the signal light for that side was very weak, had to replace the whole thing with a good used one.

Nordics are great value for $$$ and handle very well. The only problem that I have is that they are LOUD !!! – but I guess most ( if not all ) winter tires are little louder than summer or all seasons.

Toyota Alphard has a 42mpg hybrid model… the perfect van for daily use in my opinion. Too bad you can’t get them here. I’ve owned a Chrysler Minivan and the reliability is horrible. Constantly having problems. Took 3 transmission rebuilds and 2 motors just to get to 200K, not to mention the steering gear completely replaced twice. Compared to my Mazda car which also went 200K and required nothing more than a couple of serp belts and a new clutch it has been a total disaster. Will be looking for a Honda Odessy or Toyota Sienna next.

My 2004 Jetta TDI tail lights are out. bulbs look fine, and I swapped in the working break light bulbs to test but still no lighting. Fuses 23 and 24 are fine because the front parking lights work. On the rears are out. All other rear lights working…hazards….breaks…reverse…just the parking lights. I don’t see a separate fuse for these. Any ideas?

@LoveMyJetta your problem is wiring not a fuse. but to check a fuse turn your car off locate the fuse panel and start pulling fuse's. in order to tell if a fuse is bad look at the middle of it and you will see the metal is broken on the inside or it is black.

How can you tell if the fuse is blown? And how exactly do you check? I feel like I’ve read conflicting information about whether to turn car off or on, leave key in or out, etc. My FM radio periodically stops working, and then starts working again for no apparent reason.

Thanks for the post! I used this to fix my 2004 G35 coupe. In my case, there were 4 broken wires, one green and 3 black. I was unsure about connecting the black wires, but my first guess worked, so I’m either lucky or you don’t necessarily have to connect the black wires to the same black wire.

So I just Google’s what my problem is and I found your website. And it almost sounds identical to what’s going with your jetta. So im gonna explain and hopefully you’ll have a response. My locks aren’t working and my windows wont work and neither will the sunroof. Also the dome lights aren’t working as well but those haven’t ever worked since I got it from day one. The prob I have is that my car wont lock, I can’t roll the windows up, and the sunroof is open

Meguiar’s Gold Class is for that person who will take nothing less than perfect. I have been using Meguiars NXT and I have tried Gold Class. Almost the same outcome. I think(my opinion) NXT is a little easier to use, but again, same outcome! I am a Car Guy, so anything that has the Meguiars name on it, is the best you can use!!

1999 jetta clock &mileage stays on after key removed also when battery cables removed and replaced there is a spark as if something is on also when the car is not run for a day or so the battery is dead

Perse Auto in North York Ontario. Biggest cheaters I could possibly find. Bought a car on a condition that they will get me the financing, they find me a financing at pathetic rate with alots of down payment. thanks. pictures matched perfectly on my 2003 g35 coupe. the green wire was indeed disconnected. the most tricky part was locating the clump of wires from the black wrap casing (i had to remove layers of existing electric tape). besides that, it was quick (30min) and to the point!

Thank you for the great resource. The fuse card is a joke. My radio will not turn on, so I am going to test/replace fuse 37 and 42. However, every time I start my car, my clock resets to 12:00. Has anyone had this problem with their clock? I don’t see a fuse related to the clock. My car battery has been dead awhile and I recently had it jumped and recharged. Maybe this had something to do with it.

Hi All :

I had all the problems with the windows, locks , dome lights. sun roof trunk etc. # 14 fuse was blown ans kept blowing when opening trunk with switch on door, key fob or key. I removed panel on trunk lid, disconnected the electrical connections on the trunl relay (white and black) and the (orange) connection to the key assembly. I now have a manual trunk lock operated by key only butttttttttttt all of the other affected components work. I suspect a short somewhere between the remote trunk switch in the door and the CCM which is under the dash on the left side. Hope this helps. Good Luck

I have a 2000 Jetta 2.0 and the lighter socket in the front doesn’t work, but the socket in the trunk does…plus the windshield washer tank hose is disconnected and I can’t seem to find where it plugs into for correct flow to the sprayers…I fill the reserve and it just flows out from the tube that is connected to the pump motor on the washer tank…anyone??

Hi Mikhail. I am not sure how this messaging sytem works but I assume that it will get to you somehow. As you can see in my comment above there are 4 black wires in the wiring harness. Hi guys and thanks for this article. This is exactly my problem with my 2004 G35 Sedan. In my case there are several wires broken and I am going to try to get a piece of wiring harness with the same colours. The problem is that there are 4 black wires and identification of them is difficult. Does anyone know if the black wires need to be separated or identified or are they spare ones and therefore not necessary?

I have a 2004 VW Jetta and a kind motorist told me that both my tail lights are out. I’m not sure if it is that both bulbs burned out or if it is a fuse. How would I be able to tell if it is the bulbs or a fuse? Must I take the vehicle back to the dealer to have them check it out and pay $$$$$$$$$$$.

I am sorry to say Megan I had the same problem and I had to get a new master switch cylinder for my drivers dorr and both front door lock assembly and it fixed the problem. If you have a auto and electric shop where you live they can check it out. It cost me 1000.00 to fix it and it works great. I will tell you if you leave this problem the way it is your car will go haywire and the windows will start rolling down whenever they want and it will drain your battery dead. Hope this helps. Sam: The Nordics start at that price but it depends on the tire size you need and whether they’re on sale or not. I just bought my first set of Nordics last winter and was then and am now very pleased with them. I run a pretty decent all-season tire the rest of the year but I have to say I feel much more confident driving in the winter since I got my Nordics and so far haven’t had any problems. $850 incl. taxes for 4 steel rims, 4 tires, enviro fee, mounting of tires on rims and protection plan for tires. I think that’s a darn good deal…. )

@Corinne I had the same issue with the wiring harness for my hitch, I followed the harness from end to end (which was terminated at the rear brake lights), carefully following the wires i saw a small nick in the wire, that wire had made contact with bare metal down in the trunk. i had to have the harness replaced to solve the issue, good thing too because it was blowing my turning signals, brake lights and hazard lights.

Thank you for your post. Fixed my trunk. In my case the wire that broke was black, one of three . Easy fix and works like a charm.

Thank you soooooo much for posting this! My boyfriend has been trying to fix his brake light, but come to find out it was a blown fuse. He has been outside in the cold for over an hour trying to find the information in the manual and of course they have nothing helpful. THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!

I can clearly see the design influence of the A4, Camry, and Legacy. It’s an attractive car.

As far as styling, it is pretty radical to the current model. Surely, it coming out from Audi. But it is not bad. It is likable, if you like strait lines.

This map was clutch! Totally agree that the pictogram inside the door panel is next to useless. Plus, Fuse #14 seems to be an odd lynchpin- when it blew, my power windows, sunroof, trunk, and interior lights went with it. Strange.

I have used Nitrogen inflation since 2006 in all our family vehicles. We have exceeded tire life as much as 10k. Proper inflation, rotation and alignment play a part in this too. I have a Nitrogen cart that I take to Car cruises etc over the past 2 years. The feedback from customers is positive on ride improvement and better pressure retension as their cars sit in winter months until spring. Some I have rechecked and after a year still have same psi and some require minimal top off. A neighbors riding lawn mower would always have extremely low tires after winter but with Nitrogen only lost a pound or 2.
The naysayers usually are highly educated in science and can come up with all the formulas on paper but probably never have tried Nitrogen in real life. I agree with them on price gouging using scare tactics etc is not the way to promote the product. $11 cad is avery fair price seeing how some in the US charge $50.00 us or more. Eventually Nitrogen will be free or hidden in price of tires.

Max, I was wondering if you have had a chance to fix your trunk wiring?
It seems that I have the same problem. I had the auto club unlock my car because the fob would not work. I have replaced fuse 14 four times, and just opening the trunk causes it to blow, as soon as the trunk light tries to turn on. Leading up to this I have also had problems with the trunk opening with the fob, just the lights would flash, but no “unlock” would occur… I am going out to take apart my trunk and investigate.

my 2000 jetta automatic 2.0 liter AEG engine code car will start and die instantly and fuse 7 and 11 keeps blowing. I was wondering if anybody is having the same issue and what was done to fix it.

Re: Goodyear Nordic Snow Tires. The previous Nordic Tire (pre-2009?) was excellent in all respects, surpassing “top of the line” winter tires in terms of quality & performance, (in addition to superior price point). Handing in snow was excellent. Rain performance was great. Handling on dry roads was super! – No road noise and none of the “squirm” you’ll get from some high prices top of the line snows, (I could mention specific manufacturer but I will refrain.) Tire wear on dry pavement was OK despite relatively soft compound – in fact I used these tires year-round on my previous car for over 5 years. I can only surmise that it was taken off of the market because it was too good a product. The new Nordic (since 2009?) looks inferior in every way and I will now be forced to look elsewhere for good snow tires. Do you know if GoodYear still sells the old Nordic tire ?

Figured it out!
For other people with the same issue as mine. Seems some jettas don’t use fuse #14 (maybe california models).
all these functions and more seemed to be under fuse #28

Thank you so much for posting…
Locks won’t work and interior lights are off….
So I was like whoopdido.

But then i checked fuse #14 and it’s missing, (including the contact inside).
That is the late 1999 jetta. So I checked our 2002 jetta (same model)
and that fuse is missing too…(as well as the contacts)
There must be another fuse with interior lights/lock switches…

I can’t tell you how thankful I am to find this information! The diagram on the door is soooo useless. And every other website I went to wanted to charge me for the information. I don’t have a job right now…which is why I’m doing this myself instead of taking it to a repair shop. But if I did have money…I’d send it to you.

In my opinion Nitrogen worthed because When it comes in contact with other materials, oxygen causes oxidation. Oxidation can make rubber brittle and cause it to lose tensile strength. In addition, at high temperatures and pressures, oxygen reacts and damages inner tire liners and belt packages; nitrogen does not.
