Can you tell which one is the 335i ($51,400 CAD) and 323i ($34,900 CAD)?
The Acura CSX Type S, MazdaSpeed3, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, and BMW 335i are all fine cars. They have good performance, above average handling, and somewhat upscale. There is only one thing common amongst them – all of these sought-after cars have a base variant with low MSRP. A bare-bone version with a lucrative price that suddenly made them affordable to more individuals.
In a way, having a low entry price is a good thing for those who are considering the base models. How about for people of are planning to get the upper-end model? Read more…

Official information from Lexus.ca reveals that the Lexus CT200h will be coming to Canada in 2011. There is no information on pricing yet, but there are lots of photos and videos from the Lexus Canada website. Both the interior and exterior look impressive with the usual Lexus quality. The videos are trying to resonate the sporty yet elegant character of the CT200h. The CT200h is looking good. If the price is right (hopefully under $40,000 CAD), it should attract the younger crowd.
More photos and specs are available at the Lexus website.

My ex-boss, who used to work for an oil company in the States, said: “Oil companies don’t compete with each other; they work with each other.” Things started to make more sense after the conversation – In Toronto, if there are multiple gas stations at an intersection, the stations would have the exact same prices, even though they are different companies. Toyota Alphard has potentials for some cool mods.
To most Canadians, driving a minivan has never been a cool thing to do. Rather, it is more like, “mom drives a minivan because it is easy to transport kids around town”. The “soccer mom” image makes minivans a turn-off for the ladies.
Personally, I do not have a problem with minivans, provided that it a second car. They are not too much fun to drive, but its practicality outweighs any handling deficiencies. My neighbour describes this perfectly: A minivan is like a guy’s Swiss army knife. There are so many things you can do with a minivan that my regular sedan cannot – bringing my mountain bike to Centre Island for a ride, transporting large items like furniture and big screen TVs, and more. This is not a real-estate bidding war in the heated Toronto housing market. It all happened when Ms. Leonard visited the Orangeville Mazda dealership to get her car fixed. Leonard, an unemployed woman living on disability, ended up buying a used Mazda6 demo for $66,000 CAD. That is at least $25,000 over the real value of the vehicle. Furthermore, she was approved for an eight-year loan to pay off the car. Read more…

Toronto is the second last stop for this year’s Gumball 3000 event. Each year, the ultra-rich drive their exotic cars around different cities to show off their rides and receive celebrity treatment from the crowd.
For car fans, the Gumball 3000 is way better than a lot of the Canadian auto shows. That’s because regular people like myself get to go up close to the cool cars. (In auto shows, these exotic cars are at least ten feet from the crowd) Better yet, some of the generous owners let people sit inside their Ferrari’s and Lamborghini’s. I also had an opportunity to talk to some of the car owners. To my surprise, they were very friendly and polite when answering people’s questions. Read more…

What is the equation that defines a perfect car? Automakers are well aware of the fact that people want to buy the “best” car available. Hence you see advertising slogans like “Pursuit of Perfection” (from Lexus). According surveys, Lexus is probably the closest car to being perfect in terms of reliability. Lexus is also known for being one of the quietest cars. (Remember the old commercial with a stack of champaign glasses placed on the hood while the engine was running?) Read more…

The BMW R2100 RTP (left) vs. The Harley-Davidson FLHTP
The Toronto Police has been using Harley-Davidson motorcycles for the longest time. Harley-Davidson makes high quality motor bikes, but the brand portraits a rocker and macho image of the driver. With Harley’s signature exhaust note that can be heard from a mile away, it acts like a siren to people screaming ”the cops are coming your way!” Read more…
