Toronto’s Worst Driver

April 29th, 2010 2 comments

This incident happened back in October, 2009 – A 62 years old woman, Tripta Kaushal, was the driver of the BMW X5 SAV that ran on top of a couple of vehicles at a parking lot. She was charged with failing to report a crash and fined $500. Kaushal was also ordered to pay for the damages of the victims’ vehicles and was put on a six-month probation.

The BMW X5 is a capable Sports Activity Vehicle. It is even comparable to monster trucks! Good for BMW owners; Bad for the rest of us.

April 25th, 2010 2 comments

The VW Tiguan has the same engine as the GTI.

Today I happened to park beside a VW Tiguan Highline. Coincidentally, the owner also happened to pick up her car (it was night time). As she was starting the Tiguan, I discovered a cool feature – the Tiguan can roll its eyes! Read more…

Meguiar’s Gold Class Liquid Wax Review

April 18th, 2010 1 comment

The Meguiar's Gold Class liquid wax comes with a little buffing pad and fancy-looking box.

I keep asking myself the same question over and over again – Why on earth would someone spend $25 Cdn on a bottle of Meguiar’s Gold Class liquid wax when a bottle of Turtle Wax costs less than $6? At four times the price, is the Gold Class liquid wax four time better? Read more…

2010 Consumer Reports Top Picks

April 15th, 2010 No comments

Nissan Altima is one the top choices from Consumer Reports.

It seems that Toyota’s crisis has benefited a lot of other automakers. This year, only one Toyota and one Lexus vehicle have made it to Consumer Reports’ Top Picks list. The Toyota Highlander and RAV4 are off the Top Picks list due to the unintended acceleration issue, and it is surprising that the bestselling Camry is not even mentioned. As a result of that, there are more varieties in the latest list.

The main judging criterion include a standard set of road tests, predicted reliability based on issues reported by its members, and safety rating based on crash test data and the level of safety equipment available. Read more…

Harry Potter’s car spotted in Toronto

April 13th, 2010 2 comments

The Ford Anglia was spotted at the Ontario Science Centre at the Harry Potter Exhibit.

Well, strictly speaking, it’s actually Ron Weasley’s car that rescued Harry Potter from the giant spiders. Believe it or not, the flying car is actually a real production car back in the 1960s. The Ford Anglia is not exactly a good-looking car, but it certainly stands out from the crowd.

For Harry Potter fans in Toronto, the Ontario Science Centre is having a Harry Potter Exhibit. Admission is $20 per person and if you have a TTC MetroPass, there is a 20% discount (up to a group of 4).

How Long Should a Part or Repair Last?

April 9th, 2010 No comments

How do you know when a part or service hasn’t lasted as long as it should and whether you should seek a full or partial refund? You may have a gut feeling based on the use of the vehicle, the way you maintained it, and the extent of work that was carried out. 2013 Porsche “Baby” Boxster

April 7th, 2010 No comments

The baby Boxster is no "baby talk".

Porsche has been a truly adventurous company. When the Cayenne first came out, there were a lot of skepticism on whether the so-called “sport SUV” would sell. Many years later, the Cayenne has become a popular luxury SUV. Then came the four-door Panamera. It has the horsepower, prestige, room for four adult occupants, and most importantly, superb handling that makes the Mercedes-Benz S Class and BMW 7 series nervous. The Panamera is still relatively new and it has yet to proof itself to consumers. But so far it has been well-perceived. Read more…

Mastercraft Impact Wrench Review

April 6th, 2010 1 comment

The weather in Toronto is officially warm enough for summer tires! Over the weekend, I finally had some free time to do the wheels swap, and to test out the new Mastercraft Impact Wrench which I bought when it went on sale during winter months (The retailer probably figured that most people wouldn’t buy an impact wrench in winter). What are the pros and cons of the impact wrench? Read more…

Invention Idea 101: Photochromic Windows

April 5th, 2010 3 comments

Traditional window tinting is cost-effective. But is there a better alternative?

The photochromic glass technology had been around for quite some time. It was first discovered by Corning (dinnerware company) back in the 1960s. This innovative invention finally found a practical use in eyeglasses. The Transitions lenses got popular in the 1990s – lenses that darken when UV rays pass through the lenses. When UV rays are not present, the glass lenses become transparent, just like a regular pair of eyeglasses. Read more…
